Leon “Duckman” Holcomb was born in Pike Co, IL 11/11/52. I started duck hunting when I was 10. I bought a chessie named Sport from George Smith, Hannibal MO. I used to ride my bike to the bottoms, with Sport tagging along, and go duck hunting. I started guiding when I was 20. I became the manager at Heartland Waterfowl in 1997. The Good Lord has blessed my wife and I with great guides and a wonderful staff that will remain with us at Muddy Rivers Lodge. Another important part has been the friends we have made through the clients we have met over these 7 seasons. Many are like family; we look forward to their arrival each season.

My hobby is carving ducks and geese. I love every part of any duck, the colors, the shapes, and every aspect that makes each bird different and unique.

My daughter, Missy always liked to duck hunt. When she and her husband, Danny, were dating, he was impressed with the way she could blow a duck call. My son, Todd fell in love with the whitetail deer in Pike County and has killed many big bucks in the last 20 years. He has many hanging on the walls in his home. His wife, Jenny, is very understanding. My grandson’s names say it all about our family….Hunter and Gunner!!!

I have seen many changes in the waterfowl industry. Duck calls from $3.00 to $100.00, lead shot to steel, ducks that cover the sun to 2 duck limits. I pray the Good Lord will lead us to take care of this great resource so that my grandsons, nephews, great-grandsons, great nephews and many more generations can continue to hunt these wonderful birds.
